Free Speech doesn’t exist

Does this title annoy you? Do you have a visceral gag reflex at the very notion that freedom of speech isn’t real? Do you politely disagree with me and decide that I am just a shitposter? Regardless of your reasoning on this subject I feel that this entry is for you and especially for folks living in the United States. I am writing this especially for the free speech absolutionists. Those folks who believe quite literally that even the worst people deserve to have their freedom to speak hateful bile that adds nothing to actual discourse. Yes it is for … Continue reading Free Speech doesn’t exist

The Wonderful world of Ham: JoJo’s Bizarre adventure

The power system in JoJo’s Bizarre adventure is literally called hamon. I thought I heard the spanish word for ham jamon, and well it is the same pronounciation, it isn’t the same word. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is so earnest with its weirdness and funky fresh vibe, I cannot help but love it. The adventures of the Joestar family are entertaining, awesome and even heartwarming. I cannot help being entertained by the zaniness of the characters and the epic battles that ensue. However, the power system is the one I most enjoy. Similarly to other harder power systems like Nen in … Continue reading The Wonderful world of Ham: JoJo’s Bizarre adventure

Death Parade and how not to make an anime too long

Death Parade is one of the best anime I have ever watched in recent years. I know that that is a huge claim but hopefully I can help explain why I feel that way. But before I get into why I love it, let me speakĀ  briefly about something I have been thinking about for a while. As an anime fan for years, I have seen anime and manga that have been extremely long and have overstayed their welcome. Either the story begins to get tiresome or it loses some other hook that made it great. Bleach is a great … Continue reading Death Parade and how not to make an anime too long

Anime Suggestions

Recently I have been on an anime kick and I have been enjoying it immensely. I’ve always really enjoy anime and manga but my taste has always been extremely basic. This is why I have had so much fun discovering new ones and finding out some new favorites. Here are a few suggestions to help you find new good shows. If you like shows like Naruto, or Dragon Ball, try My Hero Academia. This is perfect for the superhero buff too, as it is a take on the superhero genre from the East. This is fairly standard shonen fare but … Continue reading Anime Suggestions

Thesis Inspiration part 1-2

The longer I’ve been out of college the longer I have had time to wish I hadn’t lost a copy of my thesis paper. I really wanted to expand on it because I felt excited about it and felt that not only would it be helpful for others, it would help me. Call me selfish if you want, but part of the inspiration was trying to understand what made me tick more. However, to connect with others effectively, I am a strong believer in understanding yourself at some level. First of all, the basic idea behind my thesis was that, … Continue reading Thesis Inspiration part 1-2

My favorite manga

Rurouni Kenshin by Nobohiro Watsuki is remarkably awesome. It takes place during the Meiji Reformation in Japan. Kenshin Himura is a rurouni, a wanderer without a home, and his fortuitous meeting with a struggling swordswomen begins to find a new home in a very different Japan. However, Kenshin’s past is that of, the legendary battosai, a legendary assassin that fought against the Tokugawa regime in the last great war. The story is steeped in actual history and while there are definitely fictional embellishments, the strong world building and character driven story are amazing. The epic sword fights don’t hurt either. … Continue reading My favorite manga
